Confidentiality
In 1996 the United States Congress passed a law called The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPPA. This law protects how your health information is accessed and disclosed. This means that information shared in Counseling Services cannot be released to professors, other university offices, family members, friends, or anyone without the student’s written permission. There are some exceptions to confidentiality involving imminent risk of self-harm or abuse of others.

Medication Policy and Psychiatric Services
Counseling Services do not prescribe or monitor psychotropics or any other medications. We partnered with TimelyCare to increase students' access to psychiatric care by offering convenient, no-cost virtual services that can be accessed anytime from any device. This allows students to connect with licensed psychiatrists through secure video or phone sessions, providing essential support for those needing medication management or specialized mental health treatment. In addition, we collaborate with community partner organizations across the surrounding tri-states—Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and New York—to ensure students residing in these areas can access in-person mental health services and resources. These partnerships help facilitate referrals, provide local support options, and ensure that all students, regardless of their location, receive comprehensive mental health care tailored to their needs. Through this combined approach, we expand access and support student wellness across multiple communities.
