ALEKS Math Placement Test Instructions - For Incoming Students at Lincoln University

Important
All students are required to take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment before registering for classes!
For general assistance, visit the Lincoln University Math Learning Center website.

Once you are admitted and receive official student status, the Math Learning Center (MLC) will register you for the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning (PPL) Assessment. Your ALEKS login information will be sent to your Lincoln University email account.

Before You Begin - Instructions for Start the ALEKS Placement

  • Step 1: Log in to ALEKS

    • Your Login Information
      Login Name: Sent to your Lincoln University email
    • Password Format: The letter L followed by your 7-digit Lincoln ID numberExample: If your Lincoln ID is 0123456, your password will be: L0123456

    Example: If your Lincoln ID is 0123456, your password will be: L0123456After logging in, change your password immediately for account security.

    Important: Never share your login credentials with anyone.

  • Step 2: Start the Placement Testing

    Select Your Assessment: Click "Incoming Freshman Placement, Fall 2026" on your ALEKS dashboard.

    Complete the Short Survey: Answer the brief background survey about your math experience.

    Complete the ALEKS Tutorial: Work through the tutorial before beginning the assessment. Do not skip this step.

  • Step 3: Complete the First Proctored Assessment

    Before starting the assessment, you will be prompted to download the Respondus LockDown Browser.

    • View ALEKS LockDown Browser System Requirements.
    • ALEKS uses Respondus LockDown Browser with Respondus Monitor for secure online proctoring.
    • A $5 Respondus Monitor license fee is required.
    • This fee covers all ALEKS placement assessment attempts.
    • Proctor Password: FALL2026
      • Keep this password available, you will need it each time you begin a proctored attempt.
      • Once you input your password, you will then begin the proctored assessment. You will not be allowed to move around. You must be in the camera view at all times. If you stop the exam, you will be graded with what you have finished.
      • Reminder: Make sure your webcam, microphone, and internet connection are functioning properly before starting the test.
      • Students who experience difficulty with the LockDown Browser or are unable to access the assessment due to technology limitations may complete the assessment at the end of an in-person Lion Link Up session this summer or during the first few days of New Student Orientation Week.
  • Step 4: Access Your Placement Assessment Results

    • Open your ALEKS dashboard.
    • Locate the "Placement Assessment" section.
    • Click "View" beside your most recent proctored assessment score.
    • Your placement results determine which math course you will begin with during your first semester at Lincoln University.

Improving Your Score
Not satisfied with your initial placement? ALEKS allows you to review learning materials and retake the assessment after completing the required practice modules.

  • Complete Learning Modules
    Review the ALEKS learning modules assigned to you.
  • Practice Review Materials
    Strengthen your understanding of math concepts before retesting. You must complete the required learning module before you can retake the placement test. You can complete the required learning module at your own pace, anytime.
  • Retake the Assessment
    After completing your review work, repeat the proctored assessment to improve your placement score.

Tips for Success

  • Work independently during the assessment.
  • Read each question carefully and take your time.
  • Complete the ALEKS tutorial before testing.
  • Use scratch paper if permitted.
  • Test in a quiet environment without distractions.
